Mid-Year Check: A Halfway Checkup Guide for Women Financial Advisors
It’s hard to believe we’re already more than halfway through the year! As a financial advisor, you’ve likely spent most of the year immersed in client meetings, business development conversations, family responsibilities, and a growing to-do list. We recognize that it’s easy to keep crossing items off your to-do list without taking a moment to reflect on what you’ve accomplished or what you need for yourself.
As a woman in financial advising, you likely bring an incredible level of care, empathy, and commitment to your work, and care deeply for your clients. These qualities are great and make you the successful woman you are, but it can also lead to you take on more than what is sustainable.
Research published in Financial Planning Review found that women financial advisors reported significantly higher levels of “empathetic stress” compared to men. Whether it’s saying “yes” too many times when your plate is already full, putting clients’ or coworkers’ needs ahead of your own, or delaying your professional goals, many women find themselves running on empty by mid-year.
This is your friendly reminder that taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury; it’s an investment in your success.
Before you dive into the remainder of the year, we encourage you to reflect and reset using our guide below.
Step 1: Take a Moment to Celebrate Your Wins
It’s easy to find yourself moving on from one goal or project to the next without recognizing your success.
Ask yourself:
- What am I most proud of so far this year?
- Which goals have I already achieved?
- What client success stories stand out?
- What challenges have I overcome?
Small victories matter. Every meaningful client conversation, new relationship formed, educational event attended, and step outside of your comfort zone deserves recognition. Take a moment to appreciate all that you’ve accomplished this year!
Step 2: Evaluate Your Energy (Not Just Your Productivity)
Success isn’t just defined by production numbers.
Consider how you’ve been feeling this year:
- What activities energize me?
- What consistently drains my energy?
- Am I creating enough time for rest and renewal?
- Have I maintained healthy boundaries?
Your well-being directly impacts how you show up for your clients, your team, and your family. Take note of what uplifts you and what areas you’d like to improve on for the rest of the year.
Step 3: Revisit Your Goals
Goals that you might have set for yourself in January may no longer reflect where you are today (and that’s okay)!
Take another look at your goals from the start of the year:
- Are my goals still aligned with my priorities?
- What needs to be adjusted?
- Is there a new opportunity I want to pursue?
- What can I let go of?
It’s okay to adapt. We encourage you to change your goals as needed.
Step 4: Invest in Your Growth
As an advisor, you encourage your clients to invest in their futures. You deserve to do the same.
Think about ways you can grow during the rest of the year:
- Attend a webinar or networking event. View upcoming events by logging into your Member Portal.
- Find a mentor or become one. Learn more about our Mentorship Program here.
- Expand your professional network. Connect with your fellow Women’s Alliance Members! View our Member Directory by logging into your Member Portal.
Professional growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens intentionally.
Step 5: Lean on Your Community
You don’t have to navigate challenges alone.
If you need fresh ideas, encouragement, career advice, or a space where women understand your experiences, connecting with fellow advisors can make a huge difference. So, lean on your community.
Communities like the Women’s Alliance exist because success is stronger when it’s shared.
Step 6: Make a Plan for the Second Half
As you reflect on the first half of your year, identify a few priorities for the remainder of the year. Keep them realistic, measurable, and meaningful.
Those priorities might be:
- What is one business goal I want to accomplish?
- What is one personal goal that deserves my attention?
- What habit will help me finish the year feeling successful, not just busy?
Remember, you matter too.
You spend your days helping others build secure futures, and your future deserves the same level of attention and care.
We believe that thriving as an advisor means more than growing your business. It means having the support to grow as a leader, a professional, and a person.
Our community is designed to support the whole advisor through every stage of your career. Whether you’re seeking professional development, meaningful networking, mentorship, advocacy for women in the profession, leadership opportunities, or resources that support your personal well-being, you’ll find a community of women who understand your journey and are invested in your success.
As you move into the second half of the year, remember that success isn’t measured only by what you accomplish, but by how supported, fulfilled, and energized you feel along the way.
Because when women advisors are empowered professionally, supported personally, connected through community, and encouraged to prioritize their well-being, everyone benefits—clients, firms, families, and the future of the profession.
